Helmholtz Zentrum Rossendurf (HZDR), a renowned research center in Dresden/Germany, hosted a group of 21 undergraduate Petroleum Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students of the University of Zakho along with their supervisor Dr. Omer Mohammed Shamdeen, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, to take part in a week training program from 10 October – 16 October, 2017. The course focused primarily on multiphase flow measurement techniques. The group headed to Dresden, Germany on 9 October 2017. The entire program and facilitations were funded and sponsored by DAAD in the frame of the project of "Iraq- German Partnership on Multiphase Flow Research and Training (IGP-Multiflow)".

The students were keen to learn and gain experiences; therefore, they actively participated and attended all the seminars on multiphase flow measurement techniques given by a number of professors and PhD students of HZDR. Furthermore, they had tours to some of their laboratories as well as other universities such as the Technical University of Dresden. At the end of training course, they were awarded participation certificates by the head of the HZDR.
It is worth mentioning that last year, too, HZDR had trained another group of 32 students from College of Engineering / University of Zakho
